Graduation at MVTC

 

Mekanisa Vocational Training Centre (MVTC), which is now called "Gudina Tumsa Holistic Training Centre", is one of the EECMY-DASSC-KNH project engaged in income generating activities and providing skills for less privileged children mainly from EECMY-Hostels.  The centre is established in 1986 and begun giving training 1n 1989. Since then, it has educated about 260 trainees and enabled them start a professional career. This year, on the 22.12.2006, were 26 graduates, among them seven young women, who were trained in wood and metal work. The centre provides also basic supplementary courses in electricity, technical drawing, entrepreneurship and  refreshment courses, such as HIV/AIDS.

Seminar in Borena zone

A team from Christian Aid (East Africa and London) along with Christian Aid Ethiopia office and EECMY-DASSC visited Borena zone, Oromiya Regional State, southern Ethiopia, from 23rd to 27th of Nov. 2006. The purpose of the visit was to find out the situation of drought affected communities who are undertaking different rehabilitation activities with the assistance rendered by the Christian Aid early in 2006. 

 

After field visits and discussions with respective communities, the EECMY/SES DASSC organized a one day seminar on the theme: “the root causes of famine and conflict in Borena zone” at Yabello, zonal town. Representatives and government officials from the communities in Moyale, Meo, Dire and Yabello as well as NGOs in the zone have participated in the seminar.

CMCC celebrates 20th anniversary

The Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus Center for Mentally Challenged Children (CMCC) has celebrated 20th Anniversary on the 28th October, 2006 in Mekanisa, Addis Ababa. Among the dignitaries present were the former president of Ethiopia Dr. Negaso Gidada, the German Ambassador in Ethiopia Dr. Class D. Knoop and the EECMY president Rev. Iteffa Gobena.

The opening speech by Mrs. Adanach Mekonnen, Coordinator of the center, introducing the history and achievements of the center, is followed by congratulatory speeches by Ato Deed Jaldessa, Director of the EECMY Development and Social Affairs Commission (DASSC), Rev. Iteffa Gobena and Dr. Negaso Gidada.

The center was formed in 1986 to provide education and vocational assistance to children with special needs. Since its inception, the student population has grown from 8 to 174. CMCC has now got its own website www.eecmy-cmcc.net with all the details of its thankful work in both English and German version.
