Food security, natural resources and environmental protection
In Food security, natural resources and environmental protection
the following key issues are given due attention:
-
Conduct area specific appraisal
of natural resources and farming systems in collaboration with the concerned
government bodies. Test through pilot schemes or pilot project phases what
works well in which agro-ecological environment and farming system, and what
is suitable for community ownership and sustainability.
-
promote area specific dry land
farming system including possibilities of micro and small-scale irrigation.
-
investigative the potentials of
diverse farming systems, non-cereal agricultural food and market production
(including food security situation in non-cereal areas)
-
promote locally adequate and
efficient food production and utilization systems.
-
Community based approach -
Community organization and capacity building to take collective measures to
marriage the natural resources
-
Participatory resource appraisal,
baseline survey and land use planning in specific areas
-
Organize communities for
protection and development of natural resources, strengthen conservation and
sustainable use promotion.
